Who says that mathematicians have no sense of humor... [Apr. 12th, 2005|12:36 pm]
From a short story I just read. Please bare with it to the end:

The Angle of the Lord

Now it came to pass in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar that the king dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled and his sleep broke from him. Then the king commanded to call the court mathematicians for to show the king his dreams.

When they came, they asked the nature of the dreams, but the king could not say for the memory had gone from him. Yet still he demanded they give their interpretations, on pain of death. The mathematiciians answered him, saying, No man upon the earth can show the king's matter; none can but the gods, whose dwelling is not with the flesh.

Yet in the king's household lived Daniel, a son of Judah and a righteous man whom God had given understanding of dreams. He came before Nebuchadnezzar and said, "The Lord God of Israel has revealed thy dream's unto me--not for mine own sake, but that thou shouldst know the wisdom of the Ancient of Days.

"Thou, O king, sawest and beheld a great image. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and arms of silver, his belly and his highs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part iron and part clay. Four great chains ran up from the ground to the head, that the fiercest gale should not topple the image. And thou stood beneath the southernmost chain in such manner that thine own head but touched a single link. Each link of the chain was a cubit in length, and the link at thy head was the tenth from the ground.

"As thou watched, a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them. Only the chains remained; and thou sawest the southernmost chain had four hundred links, which had run from the ground to the image's top, but now lay flat on the plain.

"This was the dream; and I will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

"Thou stood at the tenth link of the chain, which was like unto the hypotenuse of a right-angle triangle whereof the farthest lef was the graven image itself (if we but ignore the sag in the chain, which was drawn very tight, thereby making the variance negligible). The chain was four hundred links long, which is two score tens. Therefore, O king, since thy head just touched the chain, by divine similarity of ratios, the image was two score times thine own height. Though the image and its feet of clay were sore destroyed, the wisdom of the Lord yet enables thee to take the image's measure."

Then Nebuchadnezzar said unto Daniel, "I care not the image's height, but rather its portent. Is there some meaning to these ratios? The height of the image to the length of the chain?"

"Verily," said Daniel, "that ratio foretells what is to come, for surely it is a sine..."

Those Silly Songs [Apr. 7th, 2005|08:08 pm]
We've all seen songs that people have rewritten lyrics. Whether for comedic or emotional purposes. Benjamin Oliver and Larry F did definitive version of "Modern Major General." So I decided to do these new lyrics to "Youth of the Nation" by POD. Set to the SM universe, I bring you "Youma Nation."

“Youma Nation” by Jadeite

Last night of the rest of my life
I wish I would've known
Cause I would have told Queen Beryl the truth

I didn't tell her about the Scouts or how much I knew
Or curse Nephrite for all the plots
And all the wisdom he withheld

Unaware, I just did what I always do
Everyday, the same scheme
Stealing energy, looking like a fool

But who knew that today wasn't like the past
Instead of proving that I’m the best
My skills would be put to the test

Call me evil, but I didn't see it coming
Airplanes were running
But it didn't do nothing

Except energy blasts, it happened so fast
I didn't really know this girl
Even though I fought her in the past

Maybe this kid was the champion of love
Or maybe for a moment
I figured out who she was

Too bad I never got the chance to tell
Cause I’m stuck in a crystal
I know it's because

We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation

Little Nephrite, he was barely around
He was given the stars
With every chance to excel

Talk with astrological signs and hear the stories they tell
He might act kind of proud
But did no better for himself

He looked for energy in all the wrong places
The same machinations
Just different faces

Changed up his pace because Molly loved him
Too bad he never got to tell her
She deserved much better

Zoicite boy always played the girl
She broke all the rules
So Malachite would think she was cute

She never really succeeded much
No matter how hard she tried
Finally the Beryl committed Negacide

Malachite would carry on, just without his friends
He’d get the Scouts in the end
He might get his revenge then

He crossed the line and there's no turning back
Showed the world how he felt
By attacking some cats

We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation

Beryl's to blame for the Scouts that tragedy claimed
No matter what you say
This fact is quite plain

She feels inside, Serena’s tired of all Scouts that die
Don't nobody know why
It's the dead helping Princess Moon

I guess that's how the story goes
Does it make any sense?
Only the cats get to know

The Scouts get a new life after this
They don’t get to remember anything
I still exist

We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation
We are, We are, a youma nation

Let me know what you think. Sorry it wasn't LJ Cuts. Whenever I tried to do it, it turned the entire post into one large paragraph.

Fortune Cookies pt 1 [Feb. 12th, 2005|09:04 pm]
My sister once taught me a 'game' to play with fortune cookies. To 'spice them up,' add the phrase '...in bed' to any fortune. I went to a Chinese buffet tonight. My fortune was "You will be advanced socially, without any special effort." I'll leave it at that.

Fortune cookies are different than they were years ago. Before, they just had the fortune. Then they added lucky numbers. Now they tell you the Chinese words for some foods. For example, I learned today that 'Chao-fan' means 'Fried rice.'

Anyway, I was reading the manga Excel Saga while I was there. Now if you've seen Excel Saga, you know that the title is in English, but looks a lot like kanji. In fact, my wife, who is Japanese, actually thought that it was kanji the first time she saw it and was confused as to why she couldn't understand what it said. Where was I? Oh yeah, the restaurant. Anyway, as I went up to the cashier, I had a very interesting conversation with the female, Chinese cashier.

Cashier: Oh! Japanese! You know Japanese?
Me: Well, wife is Japanese.
Cashier: So you read Japanese. Very difficult.
Me: Well, Japanese kanji is the same as Chinese kanji. Just different meanings to the words.
Cashier: Oh! You know Chinese?
Me: Well, I know how to say 'Chao-fan.'
Cashier: Chao-fan? Chao-fan! *waves over older woman* Chao-fan! *points at me*
Old woman: Chao-fan!

At this point, I decided to take my leave.

Ways Not To Save Money [Feb. 12th, 2005|08:59 pm]
Today, I decided to use a Best Buy $15 gift certificate that I'd had since Christmas. I ended up spending $150. After that, I decided to go next door to a Starbucks. This Starbucks is attached to a Barnes & Nobles. I ended up leaving with $100 of books. So if you are a true friend, never NEVER buy me a gift certificate.

Eating Out Pt 1 [Jan. 26th, 2005|07:30 pm]

New Story [Jan. 8th, 2005|11:14 pm]

Today I had 4 free hours at work, so I set down and wrote five chapters of a comedy series. I'm known for my long writings, so my challenge to myself was for the chapters to be shorter. Tentatively, the working title is "Dark and Stormy Night, The Game." However, that name doesn't feel right. So if you can think of a better name before I post on A4, let me know.

I hope you liked the first two chapters. I'll post the rest later. I hope LJ Cut works.

Burying the Hatchet... er... Sword [Jan. 6th, 2005|10:42 am]
I was part of a really good multi-author fiction over at A4 called The Bone Sword Saga. However, a recent author killed it for me. The author (KAITON) repeatedly tried to skip people without asking first. If he had, I would have told him the status of the next authors work. Heck, he never even bothered to PM the next author and ask if he could go. Instead he took it upon himself to write next chapter and the chapter he wrote...

This is actually the second chapter that he's written of TBS. The first time he actually stayed within the rotation. However, what he wrote didn't make any sense. First, it had a character that had been KILLED IN THE FIRST CHAPTER. And I'm not saying a maybe-he's-dead-maybe-he's-not way either. The character fell off a wall, broke both his legs AND had his head crushed by the hoofs of a Death Knight's horse. The action he wrote made no sense storywise, haven't character not where they were supposed to be.

Now the second chapter he wrote is worse. Throughout the entire fiction, the other writers and I stayed true to the 'No Permenant Magic For Inanimate Items", "No Magic Without A Soul," "The Deads' Souls Have All Left" rules. Oh! And the fact that Life Mages are EVIL! What does he do? Has the princess bond with Gorougg, an evil Restless ex-Life Mage, and turn into a glorious, white-aura surrounded angel/valkyrie. It's like he didn't even bother to read any of the chapters that came before. But wait it gets worse. At that moment of resurrection, what does he do? Shifts into present day, makes the entire thing a story that one friend is telling another friend and ends with the storyteller wishing that he lived back in that time. He's done a 180 and thrust a completely different story into the mix. He completely ruined the story for me. I don't know if I can continue to write for it.

You know when he first posted, I thought that his name was familiar. It wasn't until a few day BEFORE his travesty that I finally placed it. About 6 months or so back, there was a A4 fiction contest. I was a judge and he had submitted a story. This story was the literary version of a migraine (It's true, check it out. I even told him this.). It got the lowest score I have ever given (A 1. I wasn't able to give a 0.). The story was truly and utterly bad. I head ached for hours after I read it as I tried to make sense out of it.

Screw it. I wash my hands of TBS. I give up on it. I'll go back to concentrating on Joint Fic and my own writing. Maybe I'll get more piece of mind that way.

P.S. Sorry to subject you to this rant. I didn't know of any other way of venting.

What The Hey, Let's Give 'Em A Post. [Dec. 30th, 2004|10:15 am]
I really need to learn to post more often. I'm just not used to this. I never kept a journal or diary growing up and have a harder time keeping one now.

Below is a story I once wrote for my Talmithic Chronicles. I had created a D&D world while in Italy. Everyweek, I would type up the last week's adventure from the viewpoint or perspective of the people around the characters. It pretty much stopped after I accidently erased a really long Chronicle and couldn't find the motivation to rewrite it. This is one of the two surviving Chronicles (The second got recycled and rewritten at The Bone Sword Saga now at A4.). In the story, the time jumps around a bit. It shows a main NPC at four different times in the game at the beginning, middle and end. It also helped set things up for future games. I would also like to note the party in question where made up of Good and Lawful Neutral members. Lord Draven and his son were actually evil. I thought it would be interesting to show things from their perspective though. I really found this guy interesting. I hope you like the story.

--------

Lord Draven sat in his ornate chair, drinking a goblet of red wine, and tried to relax. That upstart Lord Sintar had raised the taxes again. “If he continues to do this,” thought Draven, “I soon won’t have any peasants to harvest the crops.”
There was a soft scratch at the door to the hall.
“Enter,” he bellowed.
A servant scurried into the room. “Milord, I have bad news,” said the servant hesitantly.
“Well, out with it.”
“Milord, your son is dead,” said the servant.
“Jyris? What happened? Did he catch a cold,” asked Draven with a cruel smile.
“No, milord. It was Brikon.”
“What?” roared Draven as he violently pushed his chair back and stood up. “Who did it?”
“We don’t know at this time, milord,” said the servant. “We believe that it was some robbers. He was found stripped of his armor and weapons, as well as having his coin purse stolen. We found his horse and two of his war apes.”
“Kill the apes for abandoning their master and contact Jyris,” said Draven. “I must deliver the news to someone else.”

***

Lord Draven quietly slipped into the fitting room. Before him stood a beauty. Her raven hair fell down to the middle of her back. Her skin was as pale as ivory and her lips were crimson. She was surrounded by seamstresses who were making last minute corrections to her white dress.
“Hello, Laitiva,” said Draven.
The women spun around, her bright blue eyes wide with shock. She gave him a radiant smile when she recognized who had entered the room.
“Hello, Father,” said Laitiva. “I know I shouldn’t be fussing about my dress, but the wedding is in three days and they still haven’t gotten the train right.”
Draven smiled briefly when she called him Father. Even though she and his son were not married yet, she insisted on calling him that. The smile faded as he remembered why he came.
“Laitiva, I have terrible news.”
“Oh, what is it, Father,” asked Laitiva as she adjusted her veil. “Did the cook come up with another excuse for the dinner?”
“No. Brikon is dead.”
Laitiva gasped and looked at Draven. “I-i-it’s not possible. I just saw him this morning,” she said, as tears started to roll down her flawless skin.
Draven strode forward and folded her in his arms. He stroked her hair as she sobbed into his shoulder. “Don’t worry,” he said soothingly. “You will always be considered a part of this family.”
He leaned back and lifted her chin with his hand. “Don’t cry,” he said as he looked into her tear-reddened eyes. “I will find those brigands and I will personally make them pay.”
Having said what he had come to say, Draven turned and left the room.

***

Jyris was waiting for him outside the fitting room.
“You sent for me, milord,” said Jyris.
Lord Draven looked at Jyris contemptuously. Jyris long, stringy hair was plastered to his pale, waxy skin. His body was short and twisted; his skin looked like it was several sizes too large for his small frame.
“You’re brother was killed this morning. I want you to hunt down his killers and bring them back alive. That should be simple enough even for you.”
“Yes, milord. I’ll glad do it,” said Jyris. “After all those, brigands did kill my brother. I won’t let you down.”
“You’d better not,” warned Draven. He jabbed Jyris’s chest with his finger for emphasis. “For if you fail, I will no longer have any living sons. Am I perfectly clear?”
“Yes, milord,” said Jyris as he rubbed his chest and watched his father stomp off. “Crystal clear.”

***

Lord Draven sat in his ornate chair, drinking a goblet of red wine, and tried to relax. He was alone in the room, except for the memories. The memories of his son.
He remembered the day that Brikon was born. His wife, Penity, had been in labor for 24 hours. He had been pacing back and forth for the entire day. Finally, the midwife had come out and told him that he had a son. Draven was so relieved that he actually had to sit down. His legacy was secure.
He remembered the day he tried to teach his son to ride. Brikon had been thrown off. He had broken his arm, but he did not cry. He merely whimpered as the physician reset his bones. Two weeks later, he climbed back onto the horse, sling and all. He was thrown again, but he showed that he would never give up.
He remembered training Brikon in combat. He was quickly becoming Draven’s best student. No matter what weapon he used, he was able to defeat any of his training opponents. Draven was certain that someday Brikon would surpass even him.
He remembered the day that Penity died. Even though Draven was certain that Brikon was devastated, he did not show any emotions like a true noble. Unlike Jyris, who actually cried at the funeral.
He remembered the night of the Great Rebellion. Draven and his family had taken the side of Sintar and were in heavy fighting with some loyalists. From across the battlefield, he saw his son bravely facing down many times his number in foes and defeating them. Draven’s heart was filled with pride.
He remembered the day that Brikon had brought Laitiva before him and informed him that this was the woman he was planning on marrying. At first Draven had been suspicious of her, but soon grew to think of her as the daughter he never had.
There was a knock at the door and then it opened, instantly banishing all the ghosts of Brikon. Jyris entered, being supported by two men-of-arms.
“Milord, I have captured the killers of Brikon,” said Jyris before he erupted in loud coughs. He brought a white handkerchief to his mouth. When he brought it down again, it was streaked with red.
“What happened to you,” asked Draven disdainly.
“One of killers was able to sneak up on me and strike me with his staff. But I’m okay,” said Jyris as he began to cough again.
“Just when I think you couldn’t be any weaker,” Draven said with a cold laugh, “you have to go and prove me wrong.”
“At least I was able to take them out, unlike Brikon,” snapped Jyris.
Draven bolted out of his chair and grabbed Jyris by the throat. He easily lifted Jyris off the ground and slowly squeezed his throat. Suddenly he let go. Jyris dropped to the ground and lay there gasping.
“Don’t you ever talk about your brother like that,” Draven growled, “because you will never come close to being even half the person he was. Now get up and take me to the prisoners. I want to see what they look like with their skin still on their flesh.”

***

Lord Draven sat in his ornate chair, drinking a goblet of red wine, and tried to relax. He had his son’s murderers locked in the dungeon below. He would stretch their lives out as long as painfully possible. He would fill their every waking moment with torture. They would soon regret killing his son.
Yet he wasn’t happy. He would do anything just to have his son with him again. To see him just one last time. To say good-bye.
There was a commotion outside his door and a man-of-arms barged into the hall.
“Milord, the prisoners have escaped.”
Draven leaped up and grabbed his sword and strode out the door. The man-of-arms run to keep up with Draven
“How did they escape,” asked Draven as they moved through the halls. “There was supposed to be guards posted at all times.”
“There were guards, milord,” explained the guard. “However, they were found killed. We believe that they had a collaborator. He entered through the sewer and crawled up a chamber pipe. We have found half a dozen dead bodies and three men cowering in corners. We are currently searching the keep from top to bottom. I promise that will find them.”
“Kill the cowards,” said Draven curtly. “I’m going to wall.”
“The wall? Why?”
“Fool,” snorted Draven. ”Do you actually believe that they are still in the keep? By now they have left the same way they entered.”
Draven climbed to the top of the parapet and looked out over the landscape, searching for the fugitives. He saw Jyris with half a dozen men stalking through the brush by the moat.
“At least he was smart enough to figure out where the prisoners are going as well,” thought Draven.
At that moment, he saw several figures bob to the surface and swim to shore. The guards and fugitives started to fight. Even though the fugitives had been tortured and swam a great distance underwater, they quickly overcame the guards. Soon only Jyris stood before them.
Suddenly a giant reptilian head emerged from the forest behind Jyris. The creature bit down on Jyris. Draven’s heart skipped a beat as he watched his son get swallowed by the huge crocodile.
“No, it can’t be,” he thought. “Brikon’s killers are getting away.”
Draven lowered his head and pounded his gauntleted fist against the granite parapet. He looked up again and watched the killers fade away into the swamp, his grip tightening upon the stone.
“I will find you,” thought Draven, “and I will make you pay.”

***

Lord Draven sat in his ornate chair, drinking a goblet of red wine, and tried to relax. However, peace of mind eluded him. He just slipped deeper into a dark depression.
Brikon as well as Jyris have been killed. Their killers had escaped from him. The thieves had stolen more than just his son’s coin purse; they had stolen Draven’s reason for going on. They had taken all his plans and dreams. They had robbed him of his future and his legacy.
Outside the door to the hall, Draven heard the sounds of a war party being assembled. He had called together all his allies and retainers. Together they would hunt down the vile brigands and bring them to justice. The brigands may be physically free now, but the rest of their short lives would be filled with terror, knowing that they were being hunted relentlessly. Draven would never rest until they were back in his grasp. He would spend his every waking breath making certain that they regretted taking away the only thing that mattered in his life.
Lord Draven sat in his ornate chair, drinking a goblet of red wine, and tried to relax. Nearby a torch sputtered and died, plunging his world into darkness.

Just When You Forgot About Me... [Nov. 4th, 2004|06:14 pm]
Well, what's happened lately... Wife arrived. Was nice at first and then she started criticizing me everytime I got on the computer for not spending time with her. That wouldn't have been so bad, but I can't write without a desktop. Paper and pen are complete blocks to me and with laptops, all I can do is look at the screen with no ideas coming. However, with a desktop, the ideas and words just flow so easily. Can't explain it.

She also slipped into a depression. This is a seasonal thing. She's been depressive for over 14 years. The past three years she had to go to the hospital around this time for therapy... (20 minutes later) ...Sorry. I had to go 'cuddle.' Have to do this every 15 minutes or so. Think this is bad? Try watching a movie with her. She's leaving tomorrow go to college and I have mixed feeling about. Yes, I'll miss her, but on the other hand, it'll be nice to actually be able to do stuff that doesn't include 12 hours of holding each other straight. (True story)

Last Monday was our 5 year anniversary of when we started dating. I gave her 5 dozen roses, she gave me food poisoning. Such is life. What to know more? Ask.

I got my computer working... I think. So my writing should pick up and my reading as well. (Sorry, Ein.)

Other than that... I can't think of anything. Talk to you all later.

Those Wacky Politicians [Oct. 28th, 2004|08:33 am]
In this time of political fervor, in the USA, Australia and who know where else, I thought that I'd share this little story with you.

My wife told me that a couple years back, all the politicians in Mie prefecture (Her home prefecture) decided to wear ninja outfits to work for a day or week (She was unclear on that point). Even the women politicians wore the female version of the ninja outfit (Can't remember the name at this time.). It was to promote Mie prefecture as a good place to go for sight-seeing of ninja landmarks.

I don't know whether this says anything negative about there political body or ours. I just though that you'd want to know.

I'm Not Dead Yet [Oct. 10th, 2004|12:52 pm]
In case you're wondering why I haven't been on in a week, it's because my computer is acting funny. It's got something called Spyware on it... a lot. A friend told me to get Kazaa because it has AMVs, but 36 hours later, the computer is running so slow that I can't do anything. It would take an hour to boot up in the morning! Called a hotline, they told me that it was probably Spyware and to download Spybot, a few hours later, I have the program and deleted the thrice-blighted Kazaa (Didn't even run right. Couldn't watch anything I downloaded because it would merely show a black screen.). Started the cleaning the computer. Four days later and over 17000 programs later, Spybot says that it found 56 'problem' programs on my computer. However, it won't delete those programs because there is a freakin' German program running on my computer somehow and I get an error saying it can't do it. It took OVER FOUR DAYS to get to this point and I don't know how to get any further. This is the reason that my computer is called Demon Spawn (Seriously, that's the computer's name. Says so and everything. I can't stand computers outside the confines of gaming, internet and writing. They irritate me...). Hopefully, things will clear up soon and I'll be able to use my computer again. Expect a long post then, or at least a serious of medium posts.

Random Pointless Review No. 3 [Sep. 26th, 2004|02:37 pm]
Lost in Translation

For those coming here to see Bill Murray as he was in Caddyshack, and Ghostbusters, thank you for coming, but this is not the movie for you. He is definitely not in ‘Wild and Crazy Guy’ mode here. Wait, wrong SNL alumni. Anyway, the role here is more in line with his previous works, like Rushmore. It’s amazing how well some comedic actors become such good dramatic actors later in their career. Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, and Jim Carrey are good examples, while Adam Sandler is showing signs of making the transition.

Bob Harris is a washed-up actor coming to Japan to shoot a whiskey commercial. However, he is there more take a vacation away from his wife, who is never seen but makes her presence known by sending carpet samples and faxes about their house’s renovation throughout the movie. His career is going nowhere fast and he knows it. He comes to Japan to make a quick buck and get away for a while.

Charlotte is a young wife of a famous cameraman. She has finished college with a Philosophy degree, but does not know what she wants to do with herself. Her life is wide open to her, but she cannot make a decision. She merely follows her husband wherever he goes and stays in the hotel room during the day.

Harris and Charlotte meet in the hotel bar, and find that the other has something that they want. In Charlotte, Harris finds the youth that he feels that he has lost. On the other hand, Charlotte is drawn to Harris for the wisdom and maturity that he possesses. Together they are able to relax and have a little fun.

A lot of great cinematography is used. For the scenes that they are by themselves (i.e. them alone in their rooms, Harris at the hotel pool, Charlotte watching a Japanese wedding procession, etc.), long, still shoots are used. Combined with the quiet and melancholy music, they make for very emotional scenes. The scenes at night, when they are together, are kinetic with an almost handheld quality to them.

In the end, Lost in Translation is the story of two lonely people finding not love, but comfort in each other. They do not have sex with each other. They do not make sweeping speeches about their feeling for the other person. They know that, when the week ends, they will no longer see each other, but they will always their memories of each other and of the moments of peace that they found in each other’s company.

The music is subtle, yet sweeping. A lot of work went into matching the music it the scenes, matching quiet instrumentals and modern rock in all the right places. That may not sound like much, but there are so many directors that don’t seem to care and their work suffers for it. Coppola even knows how to efficiently wield silence, another rare gift. 9/10

As mentioned before, Bill Murray isn’t playing an over-the-top character here. His jokes are more restrained. He does credible work as a man going through a midlife crisis. Scarlett Johansson does a wonderful job as a lonely wife, who just wants someone who at least tries understands her.

Not a lot happens in the movie and that is the point. The two main actors only really come alive when they are together. Even then, there is not a lot of action, merely them trying to keep their sanity intact in an alien world of Asian culture.

There is a reason that this movie is classified as a drama first, and a comedy second. This is not a laugh-a-minute comedy; in fact, there are long stretches without any jokes, just silent introspection. However, this is a this is such a good drama that it would be a shame to miss it.

Completely Pointless Entry No. 4 [Sep. 25th, 2004|01:37 pm]
Of course you have to paint the kittens. How else can the Jabberwocky afford braces? It's not like he can eat PopTart-on-a-cob without them. But remember, use the spikey paint roller. Great fer the nooks'n'crannies. Well, not so much the crannies, but definitely the nooks. It's called Gundress, but it's really just giant robots wearing evening gowns.
